Tinder launches Group Hangouts: friend groups match with friend groups

Tinder launched Group Hangouts on September 30, 2026, letting a group of at least three people match with another group, according to Tinder's press room. Groups hold up to 15 people, TechCrunch reported, and Tinder names the US as its launch market, with other markets to follow.

Tinder launched Group Hangouts on September 30, 2026, according to Tinder’s press room. The feature lets a group of friends on Tinder match with another group of friends, not just one person with one person. One person starts a group, picks an activity and invites at least two friends.

The group appears in the feed once it has at least three members and can hold up to 15 people, TechCrunch reported the same day. Two groups get a shared chat as soon as at least one person in each group likes the other group, according to TechCrunch, so the whole group does not have to agree. TechCrunch also says the feature sits at the top of Tinder’s home screen. Group Hangouts builds on Double Date, which Tinder launched earlier. Tinder says the feature is “rolling out in phases” and is “launching in the U.S. and select markets, with additional markets coming soon.” The press room names the US as the launch market, says “select markets” will follow, and names Australia as the test market.

The numbers Tinder gives on the feature come from its own tests. In testing in Australia, 40% of Group Hangouts invitations were accepted, according to Tinder’s own test data, which gives no method. Women in the test were, according to the same data, 2.2 times as likely to like a group profile as a one-to-one profile.

The feature arrives after a quarter in which Tinder’s monthly active users fell 7% year over year, according to Match Group’s shareholder letter of August 4, 2026. Its daily active users fell 4%, which the same letter calls “its best result in the past 10 quarters.” Our report on that quarter has the rest of the figures. Spencer Rascoff, Match Group’s CEO, said in a company conversation published September 18, 2026 that Tinder had cut “the prevalence of bots and bad actors by more than 60%,” without giving a baseline or a period.

Our reading: the apps are building friends into the product this year. Hinge added Friend’s Take in July 2026, Tinder added Double Date, and now Tinder has groups. We found nothing published by any of these apps showing that the features change their user numbers, and what Tinder has published on Group Hangouts is test data with no method. For Sweden, the press room names only the US and “select markets,” and we found no statement on whether or when the feature comes to Sweden.
